Third Mainland Bridge shutdown for another 72 hours

The popular Third Mainland Bridge will be shut down for three days for another round of delicate expansion joints replacement, TopNaija can confirm.

 

Federal Controller of Works Lagos, Mr Olukayode Popoola who made the announcement on Wednesday January 27 said the closure will help concrete set properly during the curing process’ to make the rehabilitation work perfectly and durable.

 

Popoola said stoppage of movements that could cause vibrations will help to achieve this. The bridge will be closed from 12:00 midnight of Friday 29th till midnight of Monday 1st February 2021.

 

According to him;

“Messers Boroni Prono is planning to cast three number expansion joints on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st.

” This will require total closure of Third Mainland bridge from 12:00 midnight of Friday 29th till midnight of Monday 1st February 2021.

“We are sorry for the inconveniences this may cause Lagosians.”

 

According to a traffic report on Third Mainland Bridge in 2002, the number of vehicles in both directions recorded in 12 hours was 180,902 vehicles, which may have doubled or tripled after 16 years.
