Thierry Henry Is Not My Mate—Samuel Eto’o Brags

Thierry Henry over the years in his playing career was quite the remarkable and an exceptional player for his team which of course he received the accolades and respect for, but for former Barcelona player, Samuel Eto’o, he considers the French nothing more than overrated.

The former Chelsea and Barcelona attacker insists that the Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry was never up to his level in football as a player, whether for Arsenal or Barcelona.

The two of course were at one point former teammates during their time at Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, with Thierry Henry widely regarded back in the day as one of the greatest players in English Premier League history.

This of course is a polar opposite for Samuel Eto’o though, who had quite an underwhelming time in the English league that ended with playing for Merseyside club, Everton after a short spell with Chelsea.

The former France international scored 228 goals in 376 games for Arsenal, helping the North London club win two EPL championships and two FA Cups.

In 2007, Henry departed Arsenal to join Barcelona, where he met Eto’o then the legendary Cameroonian player was one of Nou Camp’s brightest stars at the time.

Under the direction of manager Pep Guardiola, both former attackers won a historic treble together in the 2008–2009 campaign before Samuel Eto’o left Barcelona for Inter Milan that summer.

Eto’o recently made the stunning claim that he was a better player than Henry and that the Frenchman was inferior to his former international teammate Nicholas Anelka in terms of talent.

I think he was not at the level of Nicolas Anelka. Thierry Henry was good, but I knew players… I preferred other players,” said Eto’o, as reported by the French publication Foot Mercato.

“In any case, he was not at my level. The luck or the bad luck that I had wasn’t to play for France.

“Those who played in France had plus 70 per cent. It is not because they were strong, but because France sells them better.

“They sold them to us and brought them up to our level…”

In the war of words, Thierry Henry is yet to respond to Eto’o’s banter.
