They’ll ‘kill’ me if I was the one — Pep Guardiola mocks Chelsea
Talk about Chelsea taking the transfer into the next level that even Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola is left stunned and feeling the heat.
The Blues under the new ownership of Todd Boehly, have reportedly spent close to a £1billion trying to sign up players into its squad.
This has brought the former Barcelona man into reacting to the spending in his latest press conference ahead of City’s game versus Newcastle United.
In his usual sarcastic tone, Pep Guardiola compared Chelsea’s spending with City’s and theorizes his critics would have had him ‘killed’ if it was his side behind the spending spree in the summer transfer window.
Former Southampton star, Romeo Lavia’s signing on a £58million deal takes the Blues’ spending to almost £1billion under Todd Boehly; a transfer that spree that went into full motion in the winter transfer of 2023.
According to Pep Guardiola, his premier league rivals aren’t getting enough media attention like Manchester City would have if it was the Etihad side bringing in players on the wave.
“I couldn’t sit here if we spent what Chelsea spent in the last two transfer windows – you would kill me,” Guardiola said.
“You will kill me, that is for sure. We’d be under scrutiny like you couldn’t imagine.”
