They Should Be Ashamed -- Rio Ferdinand Mocks

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has criticized Liverpool’s “small club mentality” following their 7-0 victory over United in the Premier League.

Speaking on his YouTube channel “Five,” Ferdinand said that Liverpool’s response to their win over United, which included a loss to Bournemouth, showed they only get up for games against their rivals.

“That is a small club mentality. That screams small club,” Rio Ferdinand said. He compared Liverpool’s approach to that of Everton in the Merseyside derby and the Manchester derby in years gone by.

Ferdinand also took aim at Liverpool supporting pundits, including Graeme Souness and Jamie Carragher. Souness had attempted to embarrass Gary Neville on air after Neville and Roy Keane laughed at the suggestion that Liverpool would win, while Carragher took a more lighthearted approach to mocking his colleague.

But Ferdinand was unimpressed with their behavior, saying that they should be ashamed of themselves for the way they acted following Liverpool’s loss to Bournemouth.

Liverpool’s defeat to Bournemouth came as a surprise, especially given that they had beaten the Cherries 9-0 earlier in the season. The result dealt a blow to their hopes of finishing inside the top four of the Premier League.

The loss followed a win over Real Betis in the Europa League, with Liverpool striker Wout Weghorst scoring his first goal at Old Trafford following criticism for touching the Anfield sign.

“The way Souness and Carragher were celebrating, the way they were trying to antagonise the guys [Roy Keane and Gary Neville], and then their team goes and does that at the weekend,” Rio Ferdinand said. “They should be ashamed of themselves.”
