The Yoke is broken! Arsenal gets their first win over Man City

Arsenal did it, they finally broke the jinx on them. The battle against Manchester City shows why Declan Rice was bought for £106 million.

At long last, the Arsenal fan base has something to smile about against Manchester City, and it is the North London side’s first ever win against Pep Guardiola in the premier league since Mikel Arteta’s reign as Gunners boss.

The North London side went into the game as the proverbial ‘underdogs’ to give the premier league a fairy tale ending to the surprise of many.

Thanks to a Gabriel Martinelli curler deflected in on goal to secure Arsenal their first win in years against the Cityzens at the 86th minute.

Gabriel Martinelli celebrates!

The Gunners went into the tie without their star boy, Bukayo Saka in the attacking line as the England international sat out of the squad to deal with an injury precaution ahead of the international break. Manchester City on their end, had to lead the charge without their holding midfielder, Rodri who sat out the game thanks to a suspension some weeks back.

Speaking of suspension, former Chelsea man, Mateo Kovacic who now dons the sky blue jersey for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City was lucky not to be sent off himself after putting in two poor tackles that were overlooked by the matchday official, Michael Oliver.

Again with the premier league, there never goes a weekend without a poor VAR narrative on a matchday.

However, it is Arsenal’s time to celebrate as the jinx is finally broken. A first win against Manchester City in years, and of course, a first clean sheet by the Gunners against Pep Guardiola.

For Guardiola, this is a consecutive defeat in the premier league, to leave the Cityzens far off the top spot heading into the international break, setting up a potential title challenge between North London rivals; Tottenham and Arsenal.

The 2023/24 Premier League season looks to go on with the spectacle that has become the tradition of the English league, and no script could be better written as we prepare for the remainder of the season.
