The trick behind sacking Erik ten Hag
Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag finds himself in turbulent waters after a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford, leaving the Red Devils with just seven points from their first six Premier League matches this season.
With the club’s recent form raising eyebrows, the pressure is mounting on the Dutch manager, whose fate now hangs in the balance.
In June, Erik ten Hag was handed a new contract, securing his position until June 2026, following a successful FA Cup campaign.

At that time, minority co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS considered parting ways with him but ultimately decided to retain their faith in the manager, buoyed by public support. Fast forward to today, however, and the landscape has drastically changed, with the prospect of Ten Hag completing his contract looking increasingly bleak.
Should United decide to part ways with the former Ajax boss, a staggering £17.5 million pay-off awaits. Yet, this figure could potentially drop if a mutual agreement is reached or if Ten Hag opts to resign, though the latter seems unlikely.
Despite the swirling rumors, Ten Hag remains defiant. Asked about his future in a recent interview with Sky Sports, he stated, “I’m not thinking about being sacked.” He emphasized the unity within the club, insisting that the ownership, leadership, staff, and players are all aligned in their mission to improve.
