"The Red 'Devil' made us lose to Copenhagen" -- Ten Hag

If Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag could fault anything from the match against FC Copenhagem, it will be the ‘red devil’ situation that was Marcus Rashford getting sent off.

A bad season couldn’t have gotten any worse for Manchester United in the Champions League than for the English side to face elimination from the tournament following defeat to Danish side, FC Copenhagen.

And for the Red Devils’ manager, Erik ten Hag, he blamed the result on one incident in the match to turn the hands of tide and have the waves favor FC Copenhagen.

According to the Dutchman, it was the red card incident in the first half that determined the eventual fate of the team who had raced into an early 2-0 lead within the first 25 minutes.

Erik ten Hag, voiced his dissatisfaction with the “very harsh” red card shown to Marcus Rashford during their dramatic 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday. Ten Hag also criticized the legitimacy of two of the host’s goals during the intense encounter.

The match got off to an electrifying start as Rasmus Hojlund netted twice within the first 30 minutes, giving the Red Devils an early lead. However, the game took a sharp turn when Marcus Rashford was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Elias Jelert.

The red card was issued in the 42nd minute, and the teams entered the halftime break deadlocked at 2-2, with Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves scoring for the hosts.

Manchester United managed to regain the lead through Bruno Fernandes, who converted a penalty, but controversy continued to surround the match as goals from Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghi ultimately secured all three points for Copenhagen.

“The red card changed everything. It’s become a different game, but then you concede two goals that never should count,” Ten Hag conveyed during his post-match interview with TNT Sports.

Ten Hag further elaborated on his frustration, stating,

“It was a very harsh decision; I’m sure he was going for the ball. I thought already the review was over, and then he went to the screen. So also, I think the referee wasn’t sure.”
