The Premier League Has To Cancel Games Now—Jamie O’Hara
The English Premier League is facing lots of criticism over the torrid season that has seen a lot of influential players for club and country face injury spells going into the World Cup season.
Thus, there is a lot of suggestion from pundits like Jamie O’Hara for the Premier League season to be postponed before the World Cup starts.
Prior to the start of the tournament in Qatar on November 20, club matches will be suspended following the weekend of November 12/13 matchups.
A growing number of athletes are suffering injuries that could put an end to their plans to represent their nation in Qatar.
Wednesday saw the addition of England left back Ben Chilwell to the list of World Cup question marks when he injured his hamstring during Chelsea’s 2-1 Champions League victory against Dinamo Zagreb.
Jamie O’Hara, a former player for Tottenham, said that it was time to postpone games scheduled before the World Cup so that athletes would have some downtime before the event.
Reece James, Kyle Walker, and Kalvin Phillips, among others, were in a competition to be fit for England before to Chilwell’s injury.
Diogo Jota, for example, won’t be eligible for Portugal any longer, and Heung-min Son of South Korea might not play because of a fracture near his left eye.
“You’ve lost Reece James, you’ve lost Ben Chilwell, but for England it’s a serious problem. Players are dropping like flies,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.
“Cancel the last round of games in the Premier League, give them a bit of breathing space.
“The Premier League should do it, or the players should get involved,” O’Hara said.
O’Hara criticized the Premier League for consistently prioritizing profits over the wellbeing and security of its players.
Arsenal is still in first place in the Premier League heading into the World Cup break, two points ahead of title-holder Manchester City, who is expected to win the competition this year.
