Nigeria’s F.C.T Minister, Nyesom Wike is about to make himself a lot more infamous with the Herders community as he vows to end open grazing in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Minister voiced his dissatisfaction regarding the presence of cattle roaming within Abuja city, assuring concerned residents of imminent action to address the issue.
During a meeting with the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Daniel Bertrand, Wike reiterated his commitment to ending the roaming of cattle within the city center. He disclosed ongoing discussions with various stakeholders to tackle the problem effectively.
Highlighting the multifaceted nature of addressing security challenges in the FCT, Wike emphasized the administration’s adoption of diverse approaches to combat criminal activities.
Additionally, efforts to bolster security through partnerships with private sector transportation entities have been intensified.
Expressing similar concerns, Ambassador Bertrand commended Wike’s initiative to tackle the cattle menace and conveyed interest in facilitating investments from Belgium to aid in the development of Nigeria’s capital.
Open Grazing in recent times has become a problem for Nigerians, often resulting in communal clashes between farmers and herders.
