The Perfect Wolves Christmas With Matheus Cunha Signing

Wolves Confirm Matheus Cunha Signing

Wolves have officially announced the loan acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid. The agreement also included a €40 million buyout option.

When the terms of the agreement are met, Matheus Cunha will become Lopetegui’s first addition as manager of Wolves.

Wolves defeated competition from neighborhood rivals Aston Villa to sign the Brazilian.

On Christmas Day, it was announced that Cunha would be arriving, initially on loan through the conclusion of the season. He becomes the first player signed by Julen Lopetegui since taking over at Molineux. Quite the perfect Christmas gift for Wolves fans, isn’t it?

Cunha joined Atletico in 2021, but under Diego Simeone, he has been a disappointment. He made 17 appearances this season without scoring a goal, which caused him to fall further down the pecking order and cost him a spot on Brazil’s World Cup roster.

This week, he appeared to take a final shot at Simeone by stressing the value of “feeling loved” in a social media post.

“The Brazilian international flew to the UK and completed his medical earlier in the week, finalising a loan move which will automatically become a permanent deal until 2027, should certain clauses be triggered,” a club statement read.

The striker won’t be available for Wolves’ holiday matches against Everton and Manchester United, but he might make his debut on January 4 against Aston Villa.
