The Perfect One — Owen Hargreaves On Victor Osimhen

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has received high praise from former Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, after his impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second-leg match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

Victor Osimhen scored two goals to help Napoli secure a 3-0 win over the German side at the Diego Maradona stadium, and secure their place in the quarterfinals of the competition.

Hargreaves was full of praise for Osimhen, describing him as a “perfect center-forward” and stating that “every top European club is chasing him”.

Speaking on BT Sport after the match, Hargreaves said, “They attack in numbers. Politano with a great first touch, Di Lorenzo there, Osimhen there. They just overload you, he is always there Osimhen. He is a great athlete, runs the channels, he’s got size. He is literally a perfect center forward, no wonder everybody is chasing him.”

Victor Osimhen joined Napoli from French side Lille in 2020 for a reported fee of €70 million, making him the most expensive African player of all time. Since then, he has been a key player for the Serie A side, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international has been linked with a move to several top European clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid. However, Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has recently stated that the club has no intention of selling Osimhen and sees him as a key player for the future.

At this stage, the test gets ever tougher for Napoli as they will now face the top clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester City or Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, with the draw set to take place on Friday. Osimhen will be hoping to continue his impressive form and help his team progress further in the competition.
