The Met-Gala introduces a New Dynasty of Fashion

The Met-Gala is an American annual fund raising event held by fashion magazine, Vogue which brings across notably celebrities from various fields to a red carpet show piece. Put plainly, it’s a piece designed to present the latest fashion sense as celebrities deem fit. And this year’s occasion didn’t disappoint.

It featured a number of celebrities in attendance, ranging from Music celebrities, television celebrities or TV hosts, without leaving behind the big screen actors such as Gucci man himself, Jared Leto to the grand occasion. The first Monday in May is seen as one of the most important dates of the year for celebrities, designers, jewellery makers and tanning salons to leave behind a mark on the red carpet, and this year’s Met Gala certainly didn’t settle for less.

Kim Kardashian was one of the headline grabbers of the Gala though as she brought about a retro fashion style of a dress last worn by Marilyn Monroe some six decades ago.

The reality star sported a crystal-embellished gown that she walked on the red carpet in, with boyfriend Pete Davidson.

The event saw celebrities style their presence with an inspiration from the gilded age; a period of rapid US economic growth in the late 19th Century—which the event was seemingly themed on.

Alicia Keys was another presence who graced the occasion in a cape-like out styled as a form of gown to represent New York’s state of mind

The dress sense isn’t farfetched considering the singer used to base her songs on her home city in songs like Empire State of Mind and Streets of New York, so it’s more like dressing like you sing.

Her shimmering black-and-silver cape-like gown saw the silhouette of the entire NY city skyline displayed on its black cape. Keys walked the red carpet with her husband, Swizz Beatz.

Nicki Minaj wasn’t to be left out though as she arrived in what many could swear had inks spray printed on her body but in actuality was a ball gown with circular jewels designed by Ricardo Tisci. Although people are finding it hard to understand why she strolled in with a baseball cap on top of it. Was she trying to mock the fashion dynasty or create her’s?

Kylie Jenner, though came on the red carpet mistaken it for a church considering her appearance was styled in something trying to mimic a wedding gown. It wasn’t a wedding gown but rather a ruffled ivory ball gown from Off-White’s fall/winter 2022 couture collection, the last from late fashion designer Virgil Abloh.

But what’s with the baseball cap though? Well, it’s safe to say she wasn’t copying Nicki Minaj considering she wore her’s backwards with a netted white veil presenting her as a bride to be.
