The Messi versus Ronaldo Debate: Crouch has a word
The Messi versus Ronaldo argument may be something that might outlive us all even though we were here before it.
It has certainly been an argument or a debate that has refused to die or universally agreed upon. Everyone has their preference, just as they have which they despise. You walk into any pub or viewing centre, and you bring about this debate, war of words ensue, and hours of the day would be spent trying to prove which is better or the GOAT as they say.
Like a little moth, the words became a flame, and from a flame, it’s gradually becoming a legend, and from a legend, perhaps one day, our descendants may see it as a myth, and by then, God knows what the argument might transit to. A religion, maybe?
Be that as it may, another legend of the game shares his thoughts on the widely debated topic.
Former Liverpool striker, Peter Crouch, has weighed in on the topic while selecting his dream UEFA Champions League XI.
Crouch while on BT Sport was tasked with selecting eleven players who would make his dream XI from the all-time Champions League list and the former England international set up his team with four iconic defenders, four legendary midfielders, and two all time forwards which ironically turned out to be Messi and Ronaldo.
Speaking of Messi, Crouch said, “Lionel Messi picks himself. For me, he’s the best that’s ever lived. As a footballer, as a technician, as someone who goes past you and excites you and scores the goals that he’s done, there’s no one better.”
Commenting on Ronaldo, he added, “He’s the greatest goal scorer that’s ever lived and that’s a fact. He went from being a bit of a show-pony to developing into a relentless goalscorer. To go from that to bang: 40 goals a season every year, minimum, for however long he’s done it is unbelievable.”
Without seeming controversial and more political to risk the ire of one fandom on him, Crouch sets on the debate and picks his side without actually picking a side.
Meanwhile, his final XI consists of players and former players like: Manuel Neuer, Cafu, Sergio Ramos, Paolo Maldini, Roberto Carlos, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Steven Gerrard, Zinedine Zidane, Messi, and Ronaldo.
And that’s how you tackle the legendary debate, the gentleman way.
