The Internet reacts to 10-point EPL deduction for Everton

Premier League points deduction for Everton has left the English league in unfavorable position on social media, with online narratives criticizing the move to deduct 10 points off the struggling team.

With a poor start to the 2023/24 campaign, the Toffees ultimately managed to create some semblance of balance to move themselves to favorable positions ahead of the league’s return prior to the international break.

However, the premier league dropped a bombshell on the club on Friday the 17th to dock 10-points off the club for premier league rule breach for Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).

The team sat 14th spot prior to the international break on 14 points, but with the 10 points deduction, now sit 19th in the league standings pending an appeal by the club.

Liverpool legend and former Everton fan, Jamie Carragher was quick to react to the news on social media, penning on Twitter;

“The 10 point deduction for Everton is excessive & not right, considering they have been working with the PL about this for the last couple of years. Would it have been better to be evasive & try & drag it out like other clubs?

No doubt relegated clubs will have put big pressure on the PL to deal with Everton, but when you consider 6 clubs tried to leave the PL & there was no sanction at all it doesn’t feel right.

Until other clubs are sanctioned Everton will feel they are being used to show there is no need for an independent regulator, and they are right.
