The Heat That Was The 95th Oscars: Winners And Losers

After last year’s Oscars drama, what did the 95th edition bring to viewers and its nominees?

In a stunning night of glitz and glamour, the 95th Academy Awards ceremony honored the best films of 2022. The event, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, saw “Everything Everywhere All at Once” take home the coveted Best Picture award, with directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert also winning in the Directing category.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” starring Michelle Yeoh in the lead role, tells the story of a woman who finds herself in the midst of a multiverse crisis, battling to save all of existence. The film also features James Hong, Stephanie Hsu, and Jamie Lee Curtis in supporting roles.

The night’s other Best Picture nominees included “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Elvis,” “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Triangle of Sadness,” and “Women Talking.”

In the Best Director category, Kwan and Scheinert’s win was particularly notable as they were up against seasoned directors such as Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”), Todd Field (“Tár”), and Ruben Östlund (“Triangle of Sadness”).

Michelle Yeoh also received accolades, winning the Best Actress in a Leading Role for her outstanding performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Yeoh was up against a strong field of nominees in the 95th Oscars, including Cate Blanchett (“Tár”), Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”), and Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans”).

The Best Actor in a Leading Role award went to Brendan Fraser for his role in “The Whale.” Fraser portrayed a man struggling with his weight and his past, with the film exploring themes of love and redemption. The other nominees in the category were Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”), and Bill Nighy (“Living”).

The Academy Awards ceremony also recognized the contributions of other individuals in the film industry, with awards given for Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Animated Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and more.

As the night drew to a close, the winners and nominees alike basked in the glow of their achievements, having been recognized by their peers for their talent, hard work, and dedication to the craft of filmmaking.

The film, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, beat out nine other contenders, including “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Women Talking.”

Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” while Brendan Fraser took home the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for “The Whale.”

Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” while Ke Huy Quan won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the same film.

In the Animated Feature Film category, “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” won the award, beating out “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,” “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” “The Sea Beast,” and “Turning Red.”

James Friend won Best Cinematography for “All Quiet on the Western Front,” while Sarah Polley won Best Original Screenplay for “Women Talking.” Martin McDonagh was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” but lost to Polley.

In the International Feature Film category, “All Quiet on the Western Front” from Germany took home the 95th Oscars award, beating out four other nominees, including “The Quiet Girl” from Ireland.

“The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” won Best Animated Short Film, while “An Irish Goodbye” won Best Live Action Short Film.

The awards ceremony was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, with many of the nominees and winners attending in person.Top of Form

Other notable winners included “Navalny” for Best Documentary Feature Film, “The Elephant Whisperers” for Best Documentary Short Film, and “RRR” for Best Original Song.

In the technical categories, “All Quiet on the Western Front” took home awards for Cinematography, Music (Original Score), Sound, Production Design, and Visual Effects.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” won the award for Best Costume Design and was also recognized in the Makeup and Hairstyling category.
