Following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Everton, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has declared that Liverpool’s hopes of clinching the Premier League title this season are effectively dashed.
Carragher shared his assessment on Sky Sports in the aftermath of the match, in which Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured victory for Everton, dealing a blow to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The defeat leaves the Reds trailing league leaders Arsenal by three points and holding just one point more than Manchester City, who have two games in hand.
Expressing his views on Liverpool’s current situation, Carragher remarked, the 2-0 defeat marks the conclusion of Liverpool’s title aspirations which he believes almost feels definitive.
Carragher insists Liverpool must now focus on finishing the season with vigor.
Carragher highlighted Liverpool’s shortcomings, particularly in terms of clinicality in both offensive and defensive aspects of the game.
The former defender said;
“This is the end of the title run for Liverpool. It almost feels like the end. They just have to make sure they finish the season strongly. They are not clinical enough in both boxes.”
