The Chelsea project is wrong -- Kepa blasts Todd Boehly

Kepa Arrizabalaga may technically still be a Chelsea player even though he currently plays for Real Madrid, but that hasn’t stopped him from blasting the current Blues’ hierarchy in a new interview at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In an interview with Spanish publication, COPE, Kepa claims the Chelsea project is not the right one as he pushes for a permanent stay at the La Liga club past the current season.

The Spaniard recently made a loan switch from the Blues to the Bernabeu after Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois sustained a lengthy injury layoff prior to the start of the season, with Kepa coming in as a short term replacement for the Belgium.

However, it hasn’t gone past a month since the switch, and the Chelsea goalkeeper is out giving scathing assessment on Todd Boehly’s Chelsea project with new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea endured what was their worst season in recent years in the 2022/23 season, and appears to be on the run for a similar fate after starting the season with a poor run of result, amassing only 4 points from a possible 12 after 4 games.

They have so far suffered 2 defeats to West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, and held to a draw versus Liverpool on opening weekend. The West-London’s side’s only win in the league was against Luton Town at Stamford Bridge, leaving the Blues in the same position as last season; 12th on the table.

Their transfer activity in the summer also adds to the narrative as the club has reportedly spent £400 million this summer to rebuild the squad, taking their spending to the £1 billion mark since the arrival of the Boehly consortium, with very little to show on the pitch side.

Speaking on the move to Real Madrid and his plans for the future, Kepa said in quote;

“My intention is to stay [with Real Madrid] for more than a year,”

“It only took a couple of calls because when Real Madrid call, it is different. I felt the Chelsea project was not the right one.”

The Spaniard continued with another dig on Chelsea, by saying;

“Real Madrid is Real Madrid,” he added. “When Real Madrid call you, it’s easy. I’ve faced Real three times with Chelsea.

“When I arrived at Bernabeu I always turned left, to the visiting dressing room, but I wanted to turn right, to local dressing room!”

With how the Romelu Lukaku saga went down, Kepa Arrizabalaga may be forcing for a move out of Stamford Bridge even before the season gets into the business end. And judging on how Todd Boehly dealt with Lukaku’s infamous interview, the American billionaire may be ticking Kepa’s days off the Chelsea calendars.
