The Banana slip everyone was waiting for

It all seemed the Premier League season was destined for a rinse and repeat of the 2018/19 season where both Manchester City and Liverpool tussled from March to May without dropping points at the top end of the table, but then comes Antonio Conte to dictate the flow of the race.

For the first time since March, Liverpool officially drop points at the foot of the Premier League as they fall to Tottenham Hotspurs in a stalemate that would deny them the title should Manchester City steal all 3 points against Newcastle on Sunday.

The game was a hard fought one, with Tottenham having all to fight for in the race for the top 4, and to that vein, drew first blood at Anfield with Heung Min Son stealing a tap in at the edge of the penalty box after an error from the Liverpool defenders in the 59th minute.

It was the first time in months Liverpool had fallen behind to an opponent while in a title charge. And it being a strange one for the team, it took them a great load of effort to come back into the game with a resilient Spurs side who came to Merseyside tactically sound and determined to get a result from the game.

The North London club who also are in a tight race against London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal for a top 4 berth, held on for large parts of the game till a Luis Diaz volley forced in a deflection off a Tottenham player to go past Keeper Hugo Loris. It was a goal that gave the Anfield faithful hope at turning the tide as they fought on with grit to get a winner which sadly never was to be.

Now, it stands that the Premier League is City’s to loose this season, with only Newcastle United standing in their way at the moment from going 3 points clear in the league.

Once again, the much craved drama returns to the Premier League, but at the detriment of a Liverpool in chase of a quadruple. Guardiola will be the happiest tonight considering the pain he had to endure against Real Madrid.
