Terrorism-related deaths drop sharply in Nigeria — NSA Nuhu Ribadu
National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has revealed that the monthly death toll attributed to terrorism has plummeted from a staggering 2,600 to less than 200, marking a significant improvement in the nation’s security landscape.
Ribadu made the revelation during the High-Level African Counter-Terrorism Meeting on Monday in Abuja.
Highlighting the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in combating insecurity, Ribadu pointed out that the price of AK-47 rifles has soared to over five million naira.
This surge in price is indicative of successful measures to curtail the availability of illicit firearms, with Ribadu emphasizing that confiscated AK-47s are not only seized but also destroyed.
Ribadu commended the collaborative efforts of Nigeria’s armed forces, security agencies, and governors, attributing the positive shift in security dynamics to their dedication and effectiveness.
He underscored the tangible progress made in reducing violent crimes and armed conflicts, citing a significant decrease in the monthly death toll.
The NSA assured stakeholders that ongoing initiatives aimed at combating terrorism and restoring peace and stability in Nigeria continue to yield promising results.
Ribadu’s remarks underscore the country’s determination to tackle security challenges head-on and create a safer environment for its citizens.
