Tanzania to host the 44th CAF Assembly

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Wednesday that Tanzania will host the 44th Ordinary General Assembly of the organization.

The meeting will focus on the future of African football, but will also be an opportunity to take a look back at the previous year’s objectives.

Football and economic development

The development of African football cannot be dissociated from the socio-economic growth of the continent, according to the president of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe. This means not only focusing on football, but on everything around it. For example, the deployment of the mobile network is a major challenge. Indeed, the coverage on the continent is very heterogeneous and many countries have set about the task of having at least 4G coverage throughout their territory. Why? To make football accessible to everyone, from everywhere: to allow people to watch a match live on their phone and to experience matches even more intensely thanks to sports betting Tanzania. It also means modernising the infrastructure or building new ones.

More opportunities

A key topic at the meeting will be how countries work together and how they create more opportunities for football infrastructure at school, amateur and professional level.

President Motsepe will also return to last year’s objectives of giving as many countries as possible the opportunity to host continental competitions and build world-class football infrastructure and facilities.

Greater scope for women

Although there is still much work to be done to develop women’s football in Africa and globally, Dr Motsepe is known for his commitment to creating more opportunities for women to participate and lead on and off the field of play. Isha Johansen, CAF’s representative on the FIFA Council and deputy chair of CAF’s Women’s Football Organising Committee, said, “We all know that women have been left behind, but CAF’s new leadership is committed to creating opportunities for women to play important roles in leadership and elsewhere.” Initiatives are also ongoing at CAF to recruit women into leadership positions and this meeting will be an opportunity to update on all of this.

Super League information eagerly awaited

The Super League project has been much talked about, the details of this latest competition have not yet been communicated, but it is known that the football organisation intends to launch the Super League from September 2022 and that FIFA has given its approval. 24 teams would be chosen on the basis of their African results over the last five years. The CAF Super League will thus be made up of the 24 best African clubs of the moment.
