Tanker crash claims 3 lives on Oshodi-Apapa expressway
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported a horrific accident in which a fully laden tanker failed to brake, killing three people.
According to LASTMA General Manager Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the incident happened at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Second Rainbow, within Mile 2 along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
According to a statement written by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the tanker collided with two Volkswagen Commercial buses and a Honda automobile (KTU 223GH).
“The victims, passengers in one of the Volkswagen buses, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
“LASTMA officers swiftly responded to the emergency, securing the area and handing over two of the deceased to Festac Police Station security personnel.
“One victim’s family was present and took custody of their loved one.
“Emergency responders, including Lagos State Fire Services and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), were also at the scene.”
Bakare-Oki extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, emphasising the importance of road safety.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss. Tanker drivers must adhere to speed limits and prioritise safety, especially when carrying hazardous materials.
“Speed and safety must never be compromised on our roads.”
