Taiwo Awoniyi on his First Premier League Goal

Super Eagles’ and Nottingham Forest’s player, Taiwo Awoniyi had quite the moment to remember on Sunday when he scored his team’s first ever Premier League goal since 1999 against West Ham to help secure all 3 points.

It was a moment he was denied off ever since signing for Liverpool when the English authorities time and again kept denying the player work permit in England.

But ultimately, his chance came again and he had nothing to do but to take it with both hands as he tapped in a miscued effort of teammate, Jesse Lingard.

The Nigeria international’s goal became the 2 time European Champions’ first ever goal back in the Premier League as they took a first half lead against West Ham which ultimately became the decider after a well fought battle.

Taiwo Awoniyi became the club’s high record signing when he sealed a move from Union Berlin.

It is quite the big relief for the player who failed to score in the Tricky Trees’ pre-season games on signing from Union Berlin.

Speaking of the goal, he told the press after the game:

“I’m really happy about the goal – it was a dream for me to score and for the team to win,

“I’m really happy about it because it took me a long journey to get back to the Premier League, and I’m very, very proud of myself.

“As a striker, you just have to be ready for anything around the goal. It’s all about getting ready, whether you are starting or coming on from the bench.

Taiwo Awoniyi lays more praises on the fans for their all out support for the team as he took out the time to show his gratitude to the fans for their backing.

“We must say a very big thank you to the fans because from the beginning, they got behind the team, and you can see how it kept the team going until the last minute.” He said.
