Taekwondo boss recommends sport as self defense against rapists
The Chairman of Ondo State Taekwondo Association, Tayo Max Adewalure, has advocated the sport as self defense for ladies to escape rape.
Adewalure said this in an interview in Ibadan on Thursday, on the sidelines of the training for coaches and senior taekwondo athletes in the South-West.
He lamented the rising cases of rape, saying learning the sport could help women escape the grasp of rapists.
Also the South-West Zonal Representative in the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Adewalure said the sport is highly recommended for kids and could also be used to curb bullying in schools.
He said, “Taekwondo is highly beneficial for physical fitness and I recommend it to everybody, especially the younger ones.
“A taekwondo athlete will kick to bring down when in danger. We know where to kick and this can help, especially ladies, to escape being sexually assaulted.

“It can also curb bullying in schools and can also orientate bullies and they will change. We have such cases and that is why I recommend it to schools and individuals.”
Adewalure, who is also the Chairman of Ondo State Taekwondo Association, said the ultimate aim of the training was to teach Nigerian youths how to become Olympics medallists in the nearest future.
The Chairman, Lagos State Taekwondo Association, Jimmy Ogunnowo, chairman, said the training was also organised to enable the coaches teach their athletes the basics of the game.
He stated that about 100 participants registered for the training which started on Thursday and ends on Friday (today).
