Suspected assassins are reportedly responsible for the death of Abuja-based newspaper vendor, Life Harrison, aka El-Musa.

Harrison was said to have been struck from behind on Wednesday while boarding a vehicle from his Kabusa residence to Area 1, where he worked.

The President of the Abuja Newspapers Distributors Association, ANDA, Benji Obute, said the victim’s cry for help attracted passersby, who rushed him to a nearby clinic.

Obute said, “He was attacked by suspected assassins on Wednesday morning. We rushed him to a clinic where he fell unconscious. He suffered a deep cut and lost a lot of blood.

“The deep cut was stitched and two pints of blood transfused into him to replace the lost blood. He was a little stabilised and referred to the National Hospital Abuja for further treatment.

“Immediately I received the news of the attack, I dispatched a high-powered delegation, led by my vice president to the clinic where he was being treated.

“The delegation did all that was necessary and was moving him to the national hospital when he gave up the ghost. This is the fourth death in quick succession in my association and I am not happy about it. The attackers did not take anything from him, so it was clearly an assassination. His remains have been deposited in the mortuary at the national hospital.”

Obute, who demanded a probe of the newspaper vendor attack, called on law enforcement agents to do more to protect lives and property of Nigerians, especially in Abuja and its environs.
