Super Bowl: Two get charged with second-degree Murder

Kansas City was shaken last week as tragedy struck during the celebratory Super Bowl parade for the Chiefs, and now, two adults face severe charges in connection with the incident.

Identified as Dominic M. Miller from Kansas City and Lyndell Mays from Raytown, the suspects have been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon, according to an announcement from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Notably, these individuals are distinct from the two juveniles previously charged with gun-related offenses and resisting arrest in relation to the shooting at the Super Bowl parade.

Prosecutors allege that the confrontation escalated when Mays brandished his firearm, prompting others, including Miller, to draw their weapons.

During a press conference on Tuesday, prosecutor Jean Peters Baker revealed that Miller is believed to have fired the fatal shot that claimed the life of local DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan.

Further, Peters Baker emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with additional suspects being sought by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Both Miller and Mays sustained injuries in the shooting and remain hospitalized as of Tuesday, Peters Baker confirmed.

If convicted, the two men could face life imprisonment and are currently held on a bond set at $1,000,000.

The tragic incident resulted in the death of Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two and beloved local radio personality, while 22 others, aged 8 to 47, suffered injuries.

Initially, police detained three juveniles but later released one after determining their lack of involvement in the shooting.

Meanwhile, specialists from the ATF are actively working to establish connections between firearms owned by suspects and evidence recovered from the scene, according to a law enforcement source cited by CNN.
