Strike: Patients stranded as labour shuts down Kano Hospital (Photos)
Patients were stucked at the Muhammadu Abudullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH) in Kano, as healthcare workers embarked on the nationwide strike.
The NLC and TUC started a national strike on Monday to protest the Federal Government’s plan to set a minimum wage of N60,000.
According to Daily Trust, the lack of healthcare workers has left many patients waiting for meetings with doctors stuck. Some of them have left without getting any information about how to reschedule their appointments.
Based on her anger, diabetic patient Binta Muhammad said that she got to the hospital early for her meeting but found that there were no healthcare workers present.
She said she felt left in the dark because she hadn’t been given any clear information or a new meeting time. She said she planned to come back when the strike is over.
Binta said, “If I had known, I wouldn’t have come out this early. I came out by 6am and arrived at the hospital around 7am only to be gold that there is nobody to attend to me.
“Now, I am left blinded without any tangible information and rescheduling of my appointment. I will just leave and come back when the strike is called off.”
Despite the ongoing strike action, a senior official at the hospital, who requested anonymity, revealed that skeletal services are still being provided.
