Strict rule Michael Olise cannot break at Munich
Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise is on the brink of joining Bayern Munich, a move that comes with a unique set of regulations, including a strict car rule enforced by the German club. The Athletic reports that Olise has chosen Bayern over offers from Chelsea and other Premier League giants, with negotiations now underway to finalize his transfer.
As part of his new role at Bayern Munich, Olise will be required to adhere to the club’s long-standing partnership with German car manufacturer Audi. Since 2002, Bayern players and staff have received company cars from Audi, which owns an 8.33 percent stake in the club. Players can choose their preferred Audi model and personalize their registration plates but are expected to use these vehicles for travel to and from the Sabener Strasse training base, matches, and other club-related activities.
This rule is strictly enforced, and several players have faced consequences for non-compliance. Notably, Kingsley Coman was fined £43,500 in March 2021 after arriving at training in his Mercedes, in violation of the policy. He was denied entry to the facility and had to park on the street. Other players, including Niklas Sule, Jerome Boateng, and Philippe Coutinho, have also breached the rule in the past.
Despite these stringent regulations, Michael Olise appears eager to join the Bavarian giants, spurred by the prospect of playing in the Champions League. His transfer would mark a significant step in his career following a standout season with Crystal Palace, where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists despite being hampered by a hamstring injury.
With Bayern expected to finalize the deal, Michael Olise will soon be navigating not only a new league but also the unique requirements that come with being part of one of Europe’s elite clubs.
