Stop borrowing money to sustain Nigeria – Harrysong warns Buhari
Nigerian musician, Harrison Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop borrowing money from other countries to sustain the country’s economy.
TopNaija.ng had reported how the president asked the national assembly to approve a loan request of N850 billion to fund the 2020 budget — which was okayed by the red chamber during Tuesday’s plenary.
This comes against the backdrop of rising concerns among several Nigerians over the country’s already surging debt profile.
In what appeared to be his reaction to the development, the singer said there is need for Buhari to change his seeming ideology of revamping the country’s economy through incessant borrowings.
The ‘Reggae Blues’ crooner also called on the president to rather invest in education, noting that therein lies the potentials for nurturing human resources needed to sustain the nation’s economy.
He urged Buhari to start paying students certain allowances for their upkeep, adding that such would boost learning and overall development of the educational system.
“Buhari invest in education, it is never too late, start paying students, we need brains to sustain this country’s economy and please stop borrowing money from other countries,” he wrote on Instagram.
