What Next For Steven Gerrard?
Villa boss, Steven Gerrard

He most definitely will deny it but Aston Villa boss will really want Liverpool to take home the Premier League title come end of the season, and it was much evident in his team selection in Villa’s penultimate game of the season against Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will battle one last time for the Premier League title on the final day of the season, and Aston Villa manager and Anfield legend Steven Gerrard could play a big role.

This role is very evident as the Ex Liverpool captain did not start his key starters in Danny Ings and Philippe Coutinho in the Burnley affair that took place last night at Villa, instead bringing them on in the second half; with Coutinho coming on in the 72nd minute and Ings in the 78th minute.

This is most likely to keep the players fresh for the final fixture and to give them a bit of legs with a cameo appearance.

The decision almost cost the team a result in the game as Burnley went with a 1-0 lead before half time after a penalty had been awarded to the clarets, caused by Emil Buendia. Buendia eventually made it up to his team when he scored the equalizer to salvage a point from the game.

Although Villa fans are left a frustrated figure as they are unsatisfied with where the club sits currently in the table as opposed to last season, with fans already questioning the employment of Steven Gerrard for the job when former manager, Dean Smith did a stellar job the season before.

All that could change if Gerrard managed to end the season on a high with a result in Villa’s last game of the season to convince Villa fans of his pedigree as manager.
