Spain's World Cup hero, Olga Carmona dealt shocking heartbreak

Olga Carmona, the 23-year-old standout from Spain’s national team, emerged as the Women’s World Cup hero after securing victory against England in the final clash.

Carmona’s triumphant low strike in the 29th minute sealed Spain’s victory, with the scoreline standing at 1-0.

However, this moment of glory was swiftly overshadowed by heartrending news.

Right after the final whistle, Carmona was informed that her father, who had been battling a long illness, had passed away.

The emotional blow came as a shock to the Real Madrid star, as she had been immersed in the intensity of the World Cup showdown.

The Spanish Football Association expressed their condolences via social media, stating,

“The RFEF deeply regrets to announce the death of Olga Carmona’s father. The footballer learned the sad news after the World Cup final. We send our most sincere embrace to Olga and her family in a moment of deep sorrow. We love you, Olga, you are Spanish soccer history.”

In a touching tribute to her father, Carmona took to social media herself. She shared a heartfelt post alongside a photo of her kissing the winners’ medal, saying,

“And without knowing it, I had my star before the game started. I know that you have given me the strength to achieve something unique. I know you have been watching me tonight and that you are proud of me. Rest in peace dad.”

Interestingly, Carmona’s family and friends made a collective decision not to inform her of her father’s passing before the final match, allowing her to concentrate fully on the showdown against England’s Lionesses.

Throughout the Women’s World Cup, Carmona was a pivotal player, starting in five out of Spain’s seven matches.

Her dramatic semi-final winner against Sweden further solidified her status as a key contributor to her team’s success.

In recognition of her outstanding performance, she was rightfully named the ‘Player of the Match’ in the final against England.
