“Sounds very good to meet Chelsea again” — Van Dijk
Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk will be relishing a reunion versus Chelsea at another final in Wembley.
Liverpool set themselves on another path to a Wembley final when they beat West-London side, Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night in a 2-3 aggregate score line to set a meeting against familiar foes, Chelsea.
Current Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk who played a part in the 2021/22 season’s final in the Carabao Cup, will recall fondly the game which set the Reds on a path towards challenging for 4-titles that season.
Speaking post-match after the Reds’ 1-1 draw against the Cottagers at Cravens Cottage, the Skipper had some words to say about going to Wembley in February.
He said; “[It sounds] very good. It feels a little bit familiar!” in reaction to meeting Chelsea again at Wembley.
The Dutchman added;
“Obviously we wanted to make sure we did the right things. Fulham played at home, brought the flags out and brought a good atmosphere, I think their manager said it was the biggest game of the season so far.
“We had to be ready to fight and I think we started the game very well, scored a good goal and created many chances to double the lead or triple the lead.
“But in the end, we find a way and we go to Wembley and I can’t wait to see all our fans there again.”
The Liverpool captain was partnered in defence by the club’s academy graduates, Jarrell Quansah and Conor Bradley who both played pivotal roles in securing the Reds a place in the final.
Van Dijk so far in his Liverpool career, has featured in 3 finals against Chelsea, all of which ended in a penalty shootout after 120 minutes of normal play.
The upcoming Carabao Cup final will be Virgil van Dijk‘s first as a Liverpool captain, who stands a chance to lift silverware with the club in his first season as Skipper.
