Something Seems Fishy—Croatia Head Coach On Argentina Game

Croatia head coach cut the frustrated figure after the match against Argentina on Tuesday following the 3-0 defeat; a reverse scoreline to the 2018 fixture, that was engineered by one specific result he considered unfair in the fixture.

Zlatko Dalic, the head coach of Croatia, has expressed doubt over the official’s choice to give Argentina a penalty during their 3-0 loss to Croatia in the 2022 World Cup.

Dominik Livakovic and Julian Alvarez collided inside the box after Alvarez pushed the ball beyond him.

To put his team ahead, Lionel Messi stepped up and made a 12-yard field goal.

The penalty incident became a reference factor that is considered quite unfair to the Croatia goalkeeper who went in for what could be considered a 50/50 challenge in the box.

“The first goal was very suspicious, to be honest.” Zlako Dalic said.

“First, we had the situation with the corner. Apparently [we should have had] a corner, according to the reaction of our players.

“Then we had the situation with the penalty… It was a little bit too cheap and easy,” Dalic said.

On the corner argument by the Croatia coach, replays showed the goalkeeper of Argentina, Emi Martinez had no contact with the ball prior to it going out of play.

Manchester City striker, Julian Alvarez, was able to cement the victory as he added a brace to secure Argentina’s place in the final of the tournament.
