Snub Victor Osimhen For Someone Better -- Paul Scholes

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has recommended that the club should sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez in the upcoming summer transfer window instead of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Victor Osimhen and are reportedly willing to offer €100 million to acquire his services. However, Scholes believes that Martinez would be a better fit for United.

Martinez has been a key player for Inter Milan this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 5 assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. The Argentina international is known for his aggressive and hardworking style of play, which Scholes believes would make him a perfect fit for Erik ten Hag’s team.

Speaking to BT Sport, Scholes said, “I like Lautaro Martinez at Inter Milan. I think he is a Ten Hag type of player; he likes a centre forward that will run about, be aggressive, get against people.”

The former England midfielder went on to praise United’s current attacking options, stating that he likes Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, but expressed concern over Martial’s fitness.

United are in the market for a new striker, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to bolster his attacking options. The club has struggled to find a consistent goal scorer since the departure of Romelu Lukaku in 2019, however Marcus Rashford has made up for the lack of goal threat from the Manchester United team this season.

If United were to pursue a move for Martinez, they would likely face stiff competition from other top European clubs. The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months, and Inter Milan would be reluctant to sell their prized asset.

It remains to be seen who United will target in the summer transfer window, but Scholes’ recommendation may carry some weight with the club’s hierarchy. The former midfielder is regarded as one of the greatest players in United’s history and has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game.
