Slumbering Reds leave the drama late against Newcastle
Slumbering Reds came at again this week to keep their fans on the edge to the last second of the clock before scenes could unfold at Anfield.
Liverpool sure have a thing about comeback tales, but that mostly has to do with the fact the team puts too much pressure on themselves to make things harder than it has to be.
The Merseyside Reds went back to winning ways over the weekend with a 9 goal thriller against Bournemouth which of course, sent signals to the Premier League that the slumbering Reds were back again.
But alas, the talks came too early for the narrators as a rejuvenated Newcastle side had other ideas on their way to Anfield.
Newcastle were joining the talk of being the new rich kid on the block and what better way to announce themselves this season with a lead at the most feared ground in England.
Of course, due to the usual tendency for Liverpool to lose concentration in games, the Newcastle side capitalized on errors from Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander Arnold’s poor defensive play to score within the first half of run time.
And what better way to tell the tale of his Premier League debut than for the opposition’s new signing Alexander Isak to net a goal past Alisson Becker at Anfield.
It was a deserved goal for a Newcastle side who came into the game knowing what they wanted and with a game plan—hit Liverpool by surprise, steal a goal past Alisson, defend and waste time.
The game plan very nearly could have worked though as it took the second half for the Reds to come into the game, and right at the 60th minute of game time.
Again, it was last weekend’s man of the match, Roberto Firmino who popped up to give the Reds a lifeline through a quick play from teammate, Mohamed Salah. Firmino’s goal canceled Alexander Isak’s first half lead to give Liverpool another chance.
Another chance it was, but like last week, new comer, Fabio Carvalho was the one to capitalize on it right at the wire in the 98th minute to hand the slumbering Reds a second victory of the season.
