Six Escape Fire Outbreak On Third Mainland Bridge

Six people including the driver of a space bus, on Wednesday, escaped fire outbreak, when the bus they were travelling in caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge. The incident occurred at about 7.15am inward Lagos Island.
According to eye witnesses’ account, the occupants took off Lagos Mainland and were heading for Lagos Island but the fire suddenly erupted at Adekunle Junction inward Adeniji-Adele and all effort to trace the source proved abortive as the fire raged and consumed the bus beyond repair.
However, all the occupants including males and females were said to have scampered for safety before the fire escalated. With the aid of fire extinguishers, Traffic officials and road users were said to have assisted in putting off the fire and prevented it from escalating or cause further damages.
An eye witness Mr Ibrahim Oyemekun said the incident resulted into traffic jam that lasted for about two hours the gridlock stretched to Olopomeji prompting some car owners to abandon their cars for fear of the unknown.
Another eye witness Mrs Basirat Adamson said the prompt intervention of Traffic officials prevented the incident from escalating. She said,
“Only God would have determine the extent of the damages if it had happened in the night when law enforcement agents would have closed for the day. They had to stop all vehicles from accessing the scene before they were able to combat the fire. Many of us were going to the market and we thank God that street urchins were prevented from taking advantage of the situation to loot or rob,”
No casualty was recorded during the incident.
