Shy Manchester United return to losing ways
If inconsistency was a word to define something that is globally recognized, then it has to be Manchester United following their defeat at home to AFC Bournemouth in the premier league, a few days short of beating Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Of course, it can be argued that the word, ‘inconsistency’ is a wrong term to class Manchester United under this season, considering the consistent thing for the Red Devils is their capacity to put up poor performances on the pitch that is in turn rewarded by poor results.
The inconsistency then comes when the team plays poorly and manages to get results going their way; the game against Everton, Wolves to name a few. There are also exceptions however, where Manchester United actually get to play well and have results go their way. In one of those scenarios, it becomes a fluke, highlighting how far the mighty truly had fallen.
The fixture against AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford, was the 20-times Champions of England’s chance to follow one positive result with another in just days after beating rivals, Chelsea at the Theatre of Dreams, but even that idea alone was the dream.
It was a dream that the Cherries came through to shatter as the home team were rendered shy on their turf in a 3-0 humbling, thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing and second half substitute, Marcos Senesi came to the party to leave behind for Manchester United fans, a rather cozy sight.
Substitute, Dango Ouattara could have gotten on the score board to add more nightmares for the Red Devils if not for the timely intervention of the Video Assistant Referee in the 90th minute of added time.
A week to facing arch rivals, Liverpool who last season left behind a haunting score line at Anfield for Manchester United, the Red Devils now face a potential déjà vu situation as their season hinges on potential Champions League elimination against Bayern Munich, and a repeat of last season’s Anfield rollercoaster.
Whichever it will or will not be, AFC Bournemouth leaves Old Trafford with a nightmare for every United fan.
