Manchester City‘s senior doctor, Jamie Butler fell 300ft to his death on the spot where he had proposed to his wife before.

The 54 year old man, a father to twin boys met his death on the mountain ridge where he had popped out the question to his wife, Magaret 27 years ago. He asked his beautiful wife to marry him on Striding Edge, a razorback Lake District ridge on the eastern side of Helvellyn , in 1994.

The couples decided to return to this spot to rejuvenate their love and it was reported that Butler walked on alone to find the exact spot where he proposed and a mist came down, dramatically reducing visibility, before ge fell from the mountain.

He suffered injuries including a fractured skull and his body was later found by mountain rescuers below the ridge before he was confirmed dead.

It was gathered that Dr. Butler, of Altrincham, Greater Manchester, who also had worked as team doctor for the premiership rugby union side Sale Sharks, was facing unspecified historical ‘allegations’ and was suspended from his practice at the time of his death.

However, his doctor said he was sure there was no suicidal intentions as Butler was determined to clear his name.

Doug Jones, the head of physiotherapist at the Altius heath care in Hale, who worked with Butler at Sale Sharks, said  ”He was a really fantastic guy who didn’t have a bad word to say about anyone. He was very loved by the staff and players at both Sale and Man City.

”In his last treatment before he died, he stopped me in the waiting room and asked me to walk put with him to his car. The last thing he told me was that he was so happy to see how Altius had grown froom nothing to what it is now and that I should be very proud of the whole team there.  A wonderful guy who I am sure will be missed”.
