Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dr. Gentle Emelah witnessed some shocker on his visit for Community inspection at Community Primary School 1 & 2 Angalabiri in Sagbama Local Government Area.
The pupils were found washing freshly harvested cassava on the school premises instead of attending their regular lessons.
The pupils revealed to Dr. Emelah that they had not received any instruction that day and were instead directed by their teachers to harvest cassava. Further inquiries led the teachers to admit that the pupils had been working for them, and they pleaded with the Commissioner for forgiveness.
Dr. Emelah expressed strong disapproval of the situation, deeming it highly inappropriate and detrimental to the students’ education. He immediately summoned the absent Head Teacher along with all other teachers at the school to appear at the Commissioner’s Office in Bayelsa State’s capital to face appropriate sanctions.
The Commissioner’s intervention underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that educational standards are upheld and that students receive the quality education they deserve.
