Shatu Garko crowned Miss Nigeria 2021, becomes first hijab model to win beauty pageant [PHOTOS]

Shatu Garko, the 18-year-old hijab model from North West region Zone Nigeria wins the 44th Miss Nigeria beauty pageant.

 

Shatu Garko emerged the winner of Miss Nigeria 2021 as she beats 17 other contestants in the race of Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant, which took place on Friday night at Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

 

She becomes the first hijab model to win Miss Nigeria beauty pageant. Nicole Ikot came in as the first runner-up, while Kasarachi Okoro as the second runner-up.

 

With this win, Garko (from Kano State) took over from Etsanyi Tukura (from Taraba State), the 43rd winner of Miss Nigeria 2019.

 

According to the organizers of the pageant, the winner of 44th Miss Nigeria will go with ₦10 million, 1-year residency for one luxury apartment, brand new car, lots of brand ambassadorship opportunities.

Miss Nigeria is an annual pageant showcasing positive attributes of Nigerian women and awarding university scholarships. The winner portrays exemplary qualities and serves as a role model for young women in the country. The pageant is currently organized by Daily Times.

 

The current titleholder is 18-year-old hijab model Shatu Garko who represented the north-east, and is first hijabi contestant alongside pharmacist Halima Abubakar in the pageant’s 64-year history, and the first Muslim winner.
