Shallipopi blows whistle on exploitation

Nigerian rising rapper Shallipopi blows hot after his explosive split from Dapper Music, marking the end of a partnership that catapulted him to stardom.

However, the breakup has taken a bitter turn, with Shallipopi accusing the label of betrayal, financial manipulation, and attempting to trap him in a predatory contract.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the rapper, born Crown Uzama, detailed his decision to leave Dapper Music, calling it “the most painful” of his career. But Shallipopi made it clear: this isn’t just about him—it’s a battle cry for artists fighting exploitation in the industry.

Shocking allegations include claims that Dapper Music coerced Shallipopi into signing a publishing deal with its subsidiary, Dvpper Digital, giving the label sweeping control over his creative and financial rights. The rapper accused the label of prioritizing profits over his growth and even withholding crucial financial records.

The most explosive claim? Shallipopi alleged that Dapper Music tried to tie him to a “forever contract,” demanding 30% of his earnings for life—even after their professional relationship ended.

“They tried to lock me into a contract where they’d take 30% of my earnings forever. That’s not just unfair; it’s exploitation and it is cruel,” Shallipopi wrote.

The revelations have sparked a heated debate on social media, with fans and industry insiders questioning the ethics of artist-label relationships. Shallipopi’s stand against exploitation could inspire other artists to challenge oppressive contracts and demand transparency from the music industry.
