Shakira could risk Jail time

The news has somewhat being about Shakira and Pique for some time now, but this time, the curtain falls on Shakira alone as she could risk jail time for tax evasion.

The Colombian singer is being charged for failing to pay the Spanish government $15 million in taxes between 2012 and 2014, with the pop star said to have made arrangements to opt out of a settlement deal.

Shakira is said to face trial on the matter, with prosecutors in Spain revealing on Friday she could risk jail time for 8 years and 2 months in prison should she be convicted for alleged tax fraud.

The pop star whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll is now facing off against the Spanish government in a 14.5 million euros (USD 15 million) tax fraud allegations, with her prosecutors seeking a fine of 24 million euros ($24 million).

The court indicted the Colombian six charges after rejecting a settlement deal offered by the prosecution, preferring to take the case to trial.

Shakira’s PR team argues that the singer has always fulfilled her tax duties, claiming the artist has already deposited the money she is accused of defrauding the government of, including 3 million euros in interest.

Prosecutors in Barcelona believe that the Grammy award winner who spent more than half of each year between 2012 and 2014 in Spain should have paid taxes in the country which they claim the singer did not.

This comes after Shakira ended an 11 year relationship with FC Barcelona star, Gerard Pique with who she has 2 kids with.
