Senate declines Buhari’s amendment bill of Section 84(12)

The amendment of Section 84 (12) which prevents political office holders from contesting for election from the party primary level without resigning as proposed by President Buhari has be declined by the senate.

Despite a court order preventing the Senate from acting on it, the bill had passed the first reading on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, after Senator Yahaya Abdullahi made the lead debate for the second reading of the bill, by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), seeking the amendment of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act was rejected totally.

The Senators kicked against it and voted ‘no’ when put to voice votes by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.
