See this: 4 things every ex Youth corps member should know

Published

on

Yesterday Batch B, Stream 1 youth corps members across Nigeria were in celebratory mood as they passed out of the one year compulsory youth service. Many things must be on their minds right now; go back to civilization (for those who served in rural areas), secure the bag and maybe a ring for the ladies. Catch your breath and check out 4 things every ex youth corps member should know

Your Uncle’s Number Will Not Go Through

“Call me when you are done with service, I’ll place you”

We know all those stories, but guess what? Your uncle will fail you. From those that will post you to those whose numbers will no longer be available or the kindhearted ones who just retired. The point  here is; you can’t really depend on anyone.

TopNaija says “gain competence, and someone would hire you without knowing you from Adam”.

School Was Not Enough

The knowledge you garnered in school is good but not enough. You will probably be disappointed if you were eager to practice whatever theoretical knowledge you learned. You would initially feel like a fish out of water.

TopNaija says “Take professional courses within your field, take online courses, learn soft skills”.

Entrepreneurship Is The Way

A good job used to be the way to get money in Nigeria. Sadly, this is no longer applicable. A vast majority of graduates are without jobs. Thousands of graduates from -number of higher institutions in the country have to grapple for  the few jobs available. Entrepreneurship has arisen as an antidote to this menace.

TopNaija says “strive to create employment for within whatever sector interests them”.

Not Everyone Is An Entrepreneur

This is an uncommon pill that is hard to swallow. Not everyone would be an entrepreneur. As a youth corps member, do not be in a haste to turn that side hustle you started during your youth service into a full-fledged business. Study yourself, identify your strengths and weaknesses and make informed decisions.

TopNaija says “strategically position yourself and choose your path”.

Now, you are rightly positioned to secure the bag!

I love to read, write and TRAVEL!!! The media space is my canvas to paint the truths of our brands and the stories of our Nigerian culture. I love a good book any day because with them I can travel to spaces that are perfect in their frame.
