Nigerians on social media are agog following President Muhammadu Buhari‘s announcement that he’ll run for president in 2019.

The presidency had on Monday revealed that President Buhari announced to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Council (NEC) that he’ll be running for second term in office.

In a statement made by Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, the president said him running is a response to the wishes of Nigerians. He said:

President Muhammadu Monday in Abuja declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019.

President Buhari made the declaration at a closed-door meeting of the National Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress.

The President said he was responding to the clamour by Nigerians to re-contest in 2019, adding that he wanted to give NEC the honour of notifying them first.

Nigerians on social media have reacted to the news.

Supporters of the president have expressed excitement, while others have promised to vote him out come the 2019 elections.
