How To Secure The Future As An Undergraduate

Published

on

One thing is to go to school, another is to graduate and get a job as long as we’re still in this country Nigeria. As an undergraduate, what are your plans after graduation? How to secure the future as an undergraduate should be a question you should ask more often. Do you plan to take over your dad’s company? If so, kudos to you. What about you that hopes in securing a job with a degree? If you fall within this line, then this article is specially written for you.

Education is an essential need that everyone must satisfy, but it’s disheartening when people feel that education is a road that leads to a job. This system wasn’t designed to get you a job, it was designed to get you informed. What you do with that sets the future for you.

I’ve met lots of graduates who seem to be stranded in life, they wander around aimlessly with no hope whatsoever. You see them doing jobs that gets then below N20,000 every month. What happened? It’s simple, the future met them unprepared. But if you start planning for the future now, you definitely won’t be in that same rut with them. Let’s explore how you can really secure that awesome future.

HOW TO SECURE THE FUTURE AS A STUDENT

1. GET MORE CONNECTION –

Believe me, this is what rules. Years spent in the university should be built on connection. It’s not about who you know, it’s about who knows you. Making lots and lots of connection can really make a huge impact in the future ahead. Imagine if Trump was once a classmate of yours, you certainly won’t be where you are today. Imagine if your best friend hit it big tomorrow, that alone has secured the future for you.
Spend more time on making friends who have visions and have the potentiality of making impact. Create a positive impact that makes you known in your present environment. Set yourself out and you’ll get fans who can do anything to see you succeed in life.

The biggest secret of making it big in life is when your connection is filled with big people. It’s not magic. It’s connection. Although making connection is not always offline, spending more time to build your online social connection will be good, but don’t get addicted or allow it affect your social life. Be wise with it.

2. WORK ON YOUR DREAM –

What do you want to become in life? What’s your passion? If it’s to be a medical doctor. Good and fine. But what must you do to set yourself aside from thousands of upcoming doctors in the country? It could be starting a blog about medicine, it could be trying to write a book, or even starting a YouTube channel. You can create a platform where you can share your ideas for free.

Whatever you’re doing, you can be the best and make huge impact. Doing that different thing others were unable to do is what makes you an entrepreneur. That’s what sets you aside.

By working more on your dream, you inevitably attract a lot of good. You attract friends, sponsors and your connection base keeps going on the increase. Going that extra mile means you know what you’re in for, and that speaks a lot about you. Imagine the difference it makes in your CV. Read more on ‘how to get a dream as a student‘

3. THINK ABOUT SELF RELIANCE –

Getting a job in Nigeria is no child’s play. Every graduate can attest to that. I’m not going to talk about establishing a business here. All I’m saying is, think about self-reliance . What will you doing if you were unable to get a job within six months to one year after graduation?
Now, this question will help you on making the right decision. The future isn’t too far away. You’ll agree with me that it flies like hell. There’s no time, start thinking and taking action cause the future is here and it is now.

4. START SAVING –

You may not have expected to see this here, sorry to burst your bubble. This shouldn’t be joked with. You don’t need to spend extravagantly always. You can start-up a routine that can somehow smoothed the road to the future. Opening a savings account with a month credit of N1000 can make a difference. You never can tell what that single act can accomplish. I know that saving is hard, it’s even more hard when you have lots of needs to solve, but saving irrespective of how small counts.
It beats my imagination when I see a young man in his twenties with no dime in his account. What is he thinking? They’d rather spend it in bars and women than invest in their future. That’s barbaric if you ask me. Whatever decision you make, always wonder about its impact on the future.

5. YOUR HEALTH –

This is supposed to be number 1 in this article but for some reasons, I didn’t. What use is the future if you never get to see it? There are things undergraduates entangle with that keeps their future a foot away from grave. Being a cultist endangers your future. Having numerous girlfriends can but give you a free ticket to grave due to STIS that’s prevalent in our society today. Those into smoking and hard drugs are nearer to the grave than they can imagine.

Taking fruits and vegetables once in a while as a student is beautiful. When you feel a headache, don’t waste time visiting the clinic. Your health should be number 1 in your life.

The future is always uncertain, but there are many things we can do to make it assured and secured despite its uncertainty. Your connection speaks more, your skills and experience sets you aside, your mindset and savings make a difference. My motto has always been,

‘Success doesn’t happen by accident.’

That’s the truth. You make them happen through series of decisions and actions you take in life. Make the right decision.
