Jose Mourinho opens up reason for dramatic moment

Jose Mourinho, the current manager of Italian football club Roma, has been offered a staggering sum of more than £100 million to coach the Saudi Arabian national team for two years, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The offer would make him the highest-paid football manager in history. The English news platform also indicated that Al-Nassr, the club of Cristiano Ronaldo, is interested in Mourinho as the current manager, Rudi Garcia, is expected to leave at the end of the season.

Mourinho, who joined Roma in 2021 and has a contract with the Serie A giants until 2024, has reportedly been facing disputes over transfers and frustration over the team’s performances this season, leading to uncertainty about his future at the Italian club.

Top management in Saudi Arabia has seized the opportunity and directly approached the 60-year-old Portuguese to lead their national football team.

According to the Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the deal proposed to Mourinho includes an annual salary of £52 million (€60m) and two options. The first option would allow Mourinho to end the contract at the conclusion of the first season, while the second option would allow him to extend it until 2026 – the year of the North American World Cup.

If Mourinho accepts the proposal, he will become the highest-paid manager in history, surpassing the current record held by Pep Guardiola, who reportedly earns £20 million per year at Manchester City.

Mourinho, who has previously managed Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham, among others, has won over 20 major titles during his illustrious career. Although he has coached various national teams, including Portugal, he has not yet taken charge of Saudi Arabia.

It remains to be seen whether Mourinho will accept the offer and leave Roma, where he has only spent one season. However, with such a lucrative deal on the table, it could be a tempting offer for the experienced coach.
