BREAKING: Lagos halts planned reopening of churches, mosques topnaija.ng

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has asked residents of the state to show restraint during the Ed-eid-Kabir festivity, saying the period is not a time to throw caution to the wind with the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, TopNaija reports.

Sanwo-Olu stated this on Tuesday in a statement while drawing lessons for the Sallah holiday from a viral video on the Internet. The clip of a child being scolded by his mother for a misdemeanor had gone viral on Twitter, with many social media users commending the negotiation skill of the boy, who amidst sobs and fear of imminent punishment, asked his mother to ‘calm down’ and ‘rest small small’.

The governor said he saw the video and was moved by the child’s sobriety, which reflected in his request for a “last chance” when confronted with the fact that he was a regular offender.

“Interestingly, the video inspired this special message to the good people of Lagos State because of the deeper meaning it conveys. Fellow Lagosians, we need to ‘calm down’ as we enjoy the coming holiday and festivity.

“It is a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s heart of sacrifice and faith in Allah. We need to emulate and demonstrate his sense of self-restraint at this time the world is combating the scourge of COVID-19.

“We need to be moderate in our celebration and observe prescribed protocols towards defeating the deadly coronavirus,” the statement said. Sanwo-Olu also asked to meet the child.
