Salah: “What the real issue is” — Jamie Carragher
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has not held back in his critique of Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian star aired frustrations over his unresolved contract situation—just days before the Reds’ high-stakes clashes against Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Salah, 32, added two more goals to his tally in Liverpool’s 4-1 demolition of Southampton, but it was his rare post-match interview that stole headlines.
Speaking in the mixed zone, Salah openly admitted his future at the club is in doubt, saying:
“I’m probably more out than in… I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club.”

Liverpool fans turn on Jamie Carragher, want him Out
Salah’s comments, laced with disappointment, hinted at growing tensions with Liverpool’s hierarchy. While fans have expressed their love for the forward, his admission that the decision isn’t in his hands has ignited speculation about a potential exit.
Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, voiced his disapproval of Salah’s timing, calling the interview a distraction ahead of one of Liverpool’s most crucial weeks of the season.
“I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah,” Carragher said. “That interview yesterday… Liverpool have got Real Madrid midweek and Manchester City at the weekend – that’s the story for Liverpool right now.”
Carragher highlighted Salah’s rare decision to stop for journalists, noting it was only the third time in seven years that the forward had done so.
“But he decided to stop for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning Liverpool the game,” Carragher added, suggesting the timing could shift focus away from the team’s on-pitch priorities.
Despite his criticism of the timing, Carragher offered a measured take on the root of the contract standoff between Salah and Liverpool.
“I think it’s pretty obvious what the issue is,” Carragher explained. “What Mo Salah feels he’s worth, whether that’s in financial terms or length of contract, is completely different to what Liverpool feel at this moment.”
The former defender urged both parties to find common ground, stating:
“I just hope they meet somewhere in the middle… as I’m desperate to see him in a Liverpool shirt next season.”
