Safin De Coque is the Son of the Nigerian Highlife Legend. He was mentored and blessed by his father to be a great singer.

 

EARLY LIFE
Safin De Coque is the second son of Nigerian late highlife legend, Chief Oliver de Coque. Apart from Darlington, his brothers: Oliver Sunday Akanite Junior and Chinedu Akanite are also Professional Musicians.

 

EDUCATION
Safin De Coque had his Secondary School education at Apata Memorial High School before going on to Ebonyi State University to study Theatre and Media Arts with the hopes of perfecting his stage craft and getting used to the Crowd.

 

CAREER
Unlike his father, He was initially a Hip hop artiste and has been doing Music since he was ten years old although his father officially introduced him to music when he was 20.

He got signed to Dozage records after the label managment heard him perform ‘Identity’ which was a remix of his father’s late 1970 hit track ‘Funny Funny Identity’ at a concert.

He has released songs like ‘Biri kam Biri’ and ‘Nwafo Nwafo’ featuring Phyno in 2014. The song which means Son of the soil speaks about his roots and his quest in the Hip Hop world.

He recently switched to high life music to revive his late father’s music and also due to pressure from his fans to ‘return to his roots’ and not let his father’s ogene music die. He admits though that playing his late father’s music gives him peace of mind.

 

FAMILY
Safin has 3 brothers named Darlington, Oliver Sunday Akanite Junior and Chinedu Akanite.

 

PERSONAL LIFE
The rapper admitted in an interview that he hated everything about polygamy as he learned from his father’s mistakes.
