Russia vs Ukraine: Troops came close to assassinating Ukrainian President and Family

Ukrainian President, Volodmir Zelensky has revealed in an interview with Time magazine how Russian troops had had made attempts to storm the presidential compound in Kyiv with his family inside, in assassination attempt.

The President describes that the Russian forces came close to capturing or assassinating him in the early hours of the Russian invasion while speaking to reporter Simon Shuster.

Zelensky reveals that the Russian troops had come close to finding him and his family in their attempts to seize Kyiv in the first hours of the crisis.

He then went on to narrate how he and his wife had to prepare the children to be sent out of the property when the bombings had started. “We woke them up,” Zelenskiy said. “It was loud, there were explosions over there.” he explained to Time Magazine.

“Before that night, we had only ever seen such things in the movies,” Andriy Yermak, his chief of staff, added to Time magazine as he narrates how the Ukrainian military had to inform Zelenskiy of the Russian strike teams that were sent to Kyiv to capture or kill him and his family.

The Guards from within the compound had shut the lights off and brought in bulletproof vests and assault rifles for the President and his aides with only one of the President’s few officials; Oleksiy Arestovych, a veteran of Ukraine’s military intelligence service knowing how to use the weapons.

The following night, having refused offers from America and Britain to evacuate Kyiv and move to a more secure location to set up a government in exile, the President stepped into his courtyard to record the now-famous video message on his phone that would thwart Russia from making further attacks on him.
